BOX PROJECT

Fall 2011

Maple

Sapele Mahogany

This box was designed as part of an introduction to woodworking class.  Through the design and construction of this project, I learned many joinery techniques and methods of woodworking.

I chose to use contrasting wood types of Maple and Sapele Mahogany to create a play between light and dark.  The reveals formed by the overlay of interlocking forms made of these two materials give a nice depth to the piece.  The form of the box allows it to rest upon its lid while open.

The box was designed to hold keepsakes and cards from friends and loved ones.
